Missed Moments

I walked out on the balcony this morning to find a beautiful day greeting me with the sun shining brightly and reflecting upon the water. I stepped back into the room to grab my phone to take a pic, and this was what was there. Although still quite amazingly beautiful, I missed capturing the sight that had greeted me. I said out loud, “Ah shucks! I missed it!” That began a multitude of thoughts.

What opportunities have I missed? The “what ifs” came flooding into my mind. However, that was not the purpose of this revelation. I cannot go back and change history, BUT I can recognize those actions or non-actions, repent, make amends, and then, move forward, changing my behavior.

As I sat here searching, listening, journaling, waiting, HE gave me another opportunity to enjoy the sunrise, for the sun peeked back out from behind the clouds, and I was able to bask in its beauty…but this time with an additional gift. My friend had joined me! I realized at that moment there were many opportunities I could have missed, but I hadn’t! I had said “yes” and was sitting here now enjoying this precious moment, and my friend was an added joy.

Although I would like a “redo” on many things in my past, the LORD has shown me I can’t change the past. I can’t erase history, BUT…I can learn from my mistakes – even other’s mistakes AND victories, choosing to move forward differently! It’s my choice to decide what opportunities are missed and what actions I choose to take. No one has the ability to do that for me. It’s my responsibility and mine alone. So today, I choose to be in the present, watching, waiting, acting, moving, being still, or simply breathing, for today, I choose life…because LIFE matters.
